We need your voice, Governor.
To: Gov. Newsom
From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA
March 15, 2025
I’m a big fan. I want to *be* you, but I think I’m a couple of years older and at least thirty pounds heavier. That being the case, please know that I ask you this respectfully even though it might seem otherwise: Where are you? We need you! The federal government is turning into an authoritarian, kakistocratic, corrupt oligarchy run by a clownish cult leader in orange makeup with no regard for the Constitution or basic human decency. We need you, Governor Newsom!
Okay, okay, I know — It’s going to take all of us, but we need you in the fight. Bernie, AOC, Walz, and Prisker are all out there fighting, and we need your voice, too. It’s a strong and unique voice, and with the experience gained from your years in politics and, more recently, your podcast, you can go places where other Democrats might not fare as well. You can go to rural areas and hold town halls or maybe go on FOX “News,” OAN, and similar networks and get some folks thinking about what’s happening in a different way.
I know you’ve had to play nice with Donald Trump to get funding for wildfire relief around my city. That had to be difficult and we are very grateful. Additionally, your other constituents and I appreciate the special session of the legislature you called providing, among other things, the resources for Attorney General Bonta’s office to fight the Trump agenda.
I also understand that taking on Trump and his minions involves seriously risking not only your own safety but also that of your family. If you were to decide that risk isn’t worth it, no one in their right mind would blame you - especially with the January 6th pardons emboldening the worst of the worst. However, if you decide to speak out more, this constituent will be behind you 100%, and I think others will, too. And if there is any way I can be of service, please let me know. I’m doing what I can here “on the ground” at the grassroots level, but I need and want to do more.
