PROTECT OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS & STUDENTS
To: Rep. Rulli, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

March 3
I am urging you to take a stand against the reckless and dangerous effort to dismantle the Department of Education. The administration is using deceptive language—like “returning education to the states”—to hide the devastating reality: stripping federal protections will leave millions of students, especially those in low-income communities and students with disabilities, without the resources they need to succeed. This is an outright attack on public education and the fundamental right of every child to learn, grow, and thrive. For decades, the Department of Education has been a lifeline for students and families. It enforces civil rights laws, funds school meal programs, and provides essential support through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504. Dismantling it means gutting these programs, leaving millions of students behind and forcing families to fend for themselves in a broken system. Congress must act. This administration’s agenda is not about empowering states—it’s about stripping federal protections, defunding schools, and abandoning students who need support the most. No matter who you voted for, these actions hurt every community. Instead of solving real problems, they create chaos, deepen inequality, and force educators and parents into impossible situations. More than 90% of students—and 95% of students with disabilities—attend public schools that rely on Department of Education programs. My own child thrived because of a 504 Plan, which provided the support he needed to succeed. Millions of students with ADHD, anxiety, autism, and other conditions depend on these protections. Tearing them away will have catastrophic consequences. This is not a partisan issue—it is a moral one. Every child deserves an equal chance at success, no matter where they live, how much their family earns, or the challenges they face. Dismantling the Department of Education is a direct attack on the future of our children, our communities, and our country. I demand that you take action. Block any attempt to defund or weaken the Department of Education. Stand up for our students, our educators, and our future. Stop the attacks. Defend public schools. Protect our students.
