Democracy harbors no kings

To: Sen. Vance, Sen. Brown, Rep. Sykes

From: A verified voter in Akron, OH

November 8

I am a Classics professor. I talk with my students about the birth of Democracy, how it was a departure from monarchy, and tyranny. The brand new United States experimented with its own form of Democracy, again, to remove itself from a monarchy. It has worked here, until now. Until the recent ruling of the SCOTUS, granting immunity to Donald Trump. This makes him a king. This puts him above the law. Given the pending sentences for his 34 felonies - and his forthcoming suits - this may have been his only reason to pursue the office in earnest. To avoid punishment for the crimes he had committed. We have elected to office a convict. And that there is no stipulation in the Constitution barring this reflects that our founders never imagined we could invite such a person to put himself at the head of our nation. We must repair this. We must remove this immunity granted by a stacked court. A purchased court, some of whom avoid their own crimes: sexual assault, embezzlement, the taking of bribes, by standing with this man who would be king. Please work with others in Congress to pass the No Kings Act, and preserve our Democracy. One person one vote; crime and punishment; no one is given more.
