Impeachment Is Warranted to Protect the Economy

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Houlahan, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Reading, PA

January 21

I am writing as a Pennsylvania constituent to urge you to support impeachment based on the President’s conduct, which has caused real economic harm and raised serious concerns about his judgment and fitness to serve. The President’s repeated threats over Greenland — including proposing tariffs on European allies unless they accede to U.S. demands — have contributed to significant market instability and a weakening U.S. dollar. Markets react to uncertainty, and tariff threats tied to foreign policy decisions have unsettled investors and undermined confidence in the economy. Most recently, during remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President repeatedly referred to Iceland instead of Greenland while discussing his strategy for a territory he has insisted the United States should acquire — a nation that Denmark has made clear is not for sale and remains sovereign. The fact that he conflated two separate countries multiple times in the same speech illustrates a troubling lack of attention to basic geopolitical facts in discussions with global leaders. At the same time, the President has continued to boast that the United States has the “best stock market in history,” even as major indices have declined over the past year, markets have experienced technical turbulence, and investor confidence has faltered amid tariff threats and economic uncertainty. This pattern of public confusion, factual errors in foreign policy remarks, and statements disconnected from observable economic reality raises legitimate questions about judgment and competence. Fitness for office is not solely a medical determination; it is about the capacity to understand and respond accurately to real-world conditions. A leader whose public pronouncements exacerbate market instability and who repeatedly mischaracterizes basic facts about foreign policy undermines confidence in the presidency and harms everyday Americans. Impeachment exists as a constitutional check when a president’s conduct demonstrates unfitness and results in ongoing harm. I urge you, as Pennsylvania’s senators, to uphold your constitutional responsibility and support impeachment to protect the economy, our alliances, and public trust in the executive branch.
