I’m writing as a concerned Wisconsin resident to urge you to extend the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which are set to expire soon unless Congress acts. These credits have been absolutely essential in helping millions of Americans — including working- and middle-class families here in Wisconsin — afford quality health coverage.
Right now, too many families are already facing crises on multiple fronts: skyrocketing food costs, widespread food insecurity, and growing economic instability. Many people rely on programs like SNAP and WIC just to survive, while health insurance premiums threaten to push them even further into financial hardship.
It’s unacceptable that in one of the wealthiest nations in the world, people are being forced to choose between paying for food, rent, or medical care. We are not all billionaires who can weather inflation or a medical emergency. For ordinary Americans, losing these premium tax credits would mean losing access to doctors, prescriptions, and preventive care — or going uninsured entirely.
Extending the ACA premium tax credits is not just a policy choice; it’s a moral obligation to protect families from slipping deeper into poverty and to prevent a growing humanitarian crisis. Health care is as essential to survival as food and shelter.
I urge you to work with your colleagues — across party lines if necessary — to immediately pass legislation extending these credits and ensuring that affordable coverage remains within reach for everyone. Let’s show that our government still values the lives and wellbeing of its people.
Thank you for your leadership and for standing up for Wisconsin families who need your voice now more than ever.
