Oppose White House Revisionism of January 6, 2021 Capitol Attack

To: Rep. Dailey-Provost, Rep. Maloy, Gov. Cox, Sen. Plumb, Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Pres. Trump

January 7

I am writing to urge you to publicly oppose the White House website released on January 6, 2026, that falsely characterizes the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack as a peaceful protest provoked by law enforcement. This official government platform rewrites established historical fact and dishonors the officers who defended our Capitol. The website makes demonstrably false claims. It asserts that US Capitol Police deliberately escalated tensions, despite extensive video evidence showing rioters attacking police first. It claims zero law enforcement officers died, ignoring that Officer Brian Sicknick died from strokes one day after being assaulted, with the DC medical examiner stating that all that transpired on January 6 influenced his death. Four other responding officers died by suicide in the following months. The site omits that 140 officers were injured, some requiring hospitalization, with many suffering PTSD. The site blames then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi for security failures and claims she rejected an offer of 10,000 National Guard troops. Pelosi has consistently denied receiving such an offer, and the president, not the House speaker, commands the DC National Guard. The website also promotes the unconstitutional theory that then-Vice President Mike Pence could have refused to certify the 2020 election, a position rejected by legal scholars across the political spectrum, including current Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This revisionism justifies pardons for nearly 1,600 charged rioters, including members of far-right militias, people convicted of beating police, and leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Calling these individuals patriotic Americans insults the officers who protected Congress that day. I ask that you issue a public statement affirming the factual record of January 6, 2021, and condemning the use of official government platforms to spread disinformation. Our democracy depends on a shared understanding of truth. History must not be rewritten to serve political ends.
