Remove ICE, etc from Minneapolis & ALL of Our Communities: Accountability NOW

To: Sen. Young, Sen. Banks, Rep. Messmer

January 25

As a constituent, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding reports of increased, aggressive immigration enforcement actions by ICE that appear to be operating without sufficient oversight. It has been reported that ICE detention facilities are facing a rise in deadly incidents and unsafe conditions, with little transparency regarding the treatment of detainees. I am particularly concerned by reports that 92% of those detained in early FY2026 had no criminal convictions, suggesting a shift toward indiscriminate, rather than targeted, enforcement. Our cities are being terrorized and our neighbors are being killed and kidnapped as is evidenced by videos coming out of Minneapolis. No one deserves to be murdered for a civil crime of being an immigrant in this country or an American citizen expressing their constitutional rights to stand up, video, and/or help their neighbors. Renee Good did not deserve to have agents try to force anthems in her vehicle, be shot at 3 times, and murdered and called a “f*king b*tch” afterwards for video recording and helping to warn her neighbors. By the way, Immigration is a civil issue, not a criminal issue and does not equate to physical violence and murder. Alex Pretti didn’t deserve to be maced, beaten, hit in the head with a gun, kicked, and shot at 11 times and then told “boo hoo” after being murdered for directing traffic, video recording, and helping a woman who had been harshly pushed by agents. Reminder: Immigration is a civil issue, not a criminal issue and does not equate to murder. These agents need to be held accountable and prosecuted. I strongly urge you to do your job TODAY and use your authority to call for: • Immediate, independent investigations into detention conditions and use-of-force incidents. • Public, emergency oversight hearings to hold the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its leadership- including Noem- accountable. • The rejection of any increase in funding for ICE until meaningful reforms and oversight mechanisms are in place. Our communities deserves to know that federal law enforcement is acting in accordance with constitutional principles, transparency, and human dignity.
