Article I Is Not Optional: Defend the November Election

To: Sen. Banks, Sen. Young, Rep. Spartz

From: A verified voter in Westfield, IN

August 11

Dear Representative, The President has called publicly for Republicans to “take over” and “nationalize” the voting in the 2026 midterms. This is not loose talk. It follows the FBI search of the Fulton County elections office, repeated threats of an executive order to control ballots and voting machines, and a drive to redraw maps mid-cycle for partisan gain. Piece by piece, the machinery of a free election is being pried loose, and the branch built to stop that is silent. The Constitution is not ambiguous here. Article I places authority over federal elections with the states and with Congress, not the President. Courts have already ruled that his 2025 election order exceeded his power. You swore an oath to that document. That oath is now the whole point. I am asking you to act, not narrate: • State on the record that the President has no authority to seize, nationalize, or federally administer any state’s election. • Open oversight hearings into the Fulton County raid and any draft emergency order to control voting. Demand documents and sworn testimony. • Oppose and, where you can, block any executive order, funding maneuver, or federal deployment that interferes with administering the November election. • Commit to the full range of Article I tools (oversight, appropriations, and, if the facts warrant, the constitutional remedies for an official who breaks his oath). This is the exact scenario the separation of powers was designed for. A legislature that will not check a President attempting to control who counts the votes has stopped functioning as a check at all. I will be watching how you vote and what you say between now and November. So will other constituents. Silence will be recorded as a choice. Sincerely, A Voting Constituent
