The reported actions by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) — illegally accessing private taxpayer data and mishandling highly sensitive information — are a shocking abuse of power. According to internal IRS reports, DOGE personnel may have unlawfully obtained and distributed confidential taxpayer records, brazenly violating federal privacy laws and shattering public trust.
Equally egregious are allegations that the Director of National Intelligence is actively suppressing federal employees from exposing unethical and illegal activities within their agencies. In a democracy, whistleblowers must be protected — not intimidated into silence. Efforts to muzzle public servants are not only morally bankrupt; they are a direct assault on accountability and the rule of law.
Congress cannot sit on the sidelines. It must immediately launch a full and public investigation into DOGE and OMB's misconduct. The American people have a right to know if their private information has been weaponized by their own government — and they deserve to see those responsible held to account.
Defending civil liberties, enforcing ethical standards, and restoring trust in government are not optional. They are the bedrock of a functioning democracy. Anything less than decisive, immediate action from Congress would be a shameful abdication of its constitutional duty.
