From: A constituent in Plainville, CT

August 12

This proposed legislation raises significant concerns regarding the judicial system's ability to provide checks and balances on executive power. By severely restricting the authority of district courts to issue injunctive relief, it undermines a crucial mechanism for protecting individual rights and holding the government accountable. Injunctions play a vital role in preventing irreparable harm and ensuring the rule of law is upheld. Passing this bill would concentrate power in the executive branch and undermine the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. It would leave individuals and states without adequate recourse to challenge potentially unlawful or unconstitutional actions by the federal government. The bill's proposal to randomly select three-judge panels further injects uncertainty into the judicial process. I urge you to reject this legislation. Maintaining robust checks and balances, as well as protecting the judiciary's ability to provide injunctive relief when warranted, is essential for safeguarding our democratic system of government. This bill poses a threat to civil liberties and the delicate balance of powers. Instead, efforts should be made to strengthen and improve access to the judicial system, not curtail it.
