Senate Bill 87

To: Sen. Billinger

From: A verified voter in Hays, KS

February 18, 2025

Senator, I am writing to voice my opposition to SB87. This bill essentially offers tax credits for parents who choose to send their children to private schools, effectively penalizing public schools and their students, a class distinction that should not be supported. Aa Parents should be free to send their children to a school of choice, but when they do, they should shoulder the bill for their decision. I liken it to choosing which car to buy. They are free to purchase a Lexus or an Audi or something less costly but just as functional such as a Kia or Honda. Each choice performs the basic and needed functions of transportation but just like the choice of car, if they choose the Audi over the Kia, they know they pay a big difference. It should be the same for choice of school. The taxpayers do not subsidize the purchase of luxury autos. They should not be forced to subsidize a costlier education. I thank you for your time.
