Abolish for-profit concentration camps

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Van Duyne

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

August 7

The proposed "Speedway Slammer" plan to detain up to 1,000 immigrant detainees at a correctional facility in Indiana is as horrific as Florida’s “Alligator Auschwitz.” These are not prisons. They are concentration camps. Not in 1940s Germany. In 2025 United States. My ancestors who fought to establish and protect this country would be horrified. Abducting individuals for immigration status alone, often when they are following the proper legal pathways, raises serious ethical and human rights questions. Locking up people who have not been charged or convicted of crimes is unjust and inhumane. Not affording them due process violates the U.S. Constitution. This draconian approach will only breed more fear and mistrust within immigrant communities. It is already having a negative impact on our economy. I urge you to reconsider this harmful punitive policy and demand these for-profit concentration camps be abolished.
