Support the child care for working families act

To: Sen. Moran, Rep. Schmidt, Sen. Marshall

From: A constituent in Columbus, KS

July 25

I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to support the Child Care for Working Families Act. As a rural parent of a young child with disabilities, I’m asking you to recognize just how critical access to affordable, inclusive, and high-quality child care is—especially for families like mine. In rural areas like ours, options for child care are already extremely limited. For children with special needs, like my autistic daughter who is also selectively mute, the gaps are even wider. Specialized care that can support developmental differences is nearly impossible to find and completely unaffordable for most working families. The Child Care for Working Families Act would cap child care costs at no more than 7% of a family’s income, invest in inclusive training for child care workers, and expand access to underserved communities like mine. It would allow families like ours to stay employed, give our kids a better start, and build stronger, more sustainable communities. This bill isn’t just about child care—it’s about equity, opportunity, and the future of our children. I’m asking you to be a champion for families like mine. Please cosponsor and support the Child Care for Working Families Act.
