As a voter in what has largely become a blue state over the past few years, I am not contacting you on my own behalf. I am a single, white, heterosexual, cisgender female with no children in the public school system—the only thing I really have to worry about is the right to medical privacy and Colorado voters chose to codify that in this election. No, I am reaching out on behalf of women of childbearing age, on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community, on behalf of migrant workers who Colorado relies on heavily, on behalf of DACA dreamers, and school children being run through active shooter drills that the shooters themselves participated in. Donald Trump is a convicted felon, a con-artist, and an alleged serial rapist with a dozen plaintiffs willing to testify and we might never know how many unwilling. He denied the results of a fair election up to the point of inciting his follower base into a violent act of terror against the United States Capitol. If he is not guilty of insurrection, he is at least culpable in not stopping it. Fifteen million votes, as I write this, may have gone uncounted in this election with many others potentially fabricated. Looking at numbers in North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, hundreds of thousands of voters supposedly voted for Democratic governors and members of Congress only to then vote for Donald Trump for President. Maybe it did happen that way. But the American public doesn’t believe in coincidences, especially not ones that big. Especially not with a potential future member of Trump’s cabinet running a lottery in swing states and “red” states, promising to pay for “all votes.” Especially when that same potential future cabinet member owns (indirectly) the internet provider that kept voting systems online. I am not a political scholar, or even a student of politics. My time in academia is far behind me and in the years since, I have fallen out of sync with much of what happens on the federal level, even though I still make efforts to stay informed. But while I am not well-versed in the options moving forward, I trust that you are and that you will do whatever is necessary to protect our democracy and to curtail the concerns of the American people that this election was anything but fair and just.
