Vote NO on H.R. 1319 – Protect Workers’ Rights and the Fair Labor Standards Act

To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Mills, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Sanford, FL

July 24

I’m writing to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 1319, which would dangerously undermine the Fair Labor Standards Act and open the door for companies to misclassify workers as independent contractors—stripping them of basic labor rights and protections. This bill is nothing more than a corporate giveaway. By loosening the definition of an “independent contractor,” H.R. 1319 allows businesses to avoid providing health insurance, overtime pay, minimum wage guarantees, unemployment insurance, and other crucial protections that full-time employees deserve. Let’s be clear: this bill doesn’t promote entrepreneurship or flexibility—it promotes exploitation. Millions of workers would be forced into precarious working conditions with no safety net. Gig workers, freelance professionals, and even traditional employees in fields like education, healthcare, trucking, and media could lose hard-fought rights with the stroke of a pen. At a time when working families are already struggling with inflation and skyrocketing living costs, Congress should be strengthening labor protections—not dismantling them. I strongly urge you to stand with working Americans and oppose this corporate-driven attack on the workforce. Vote NO on H.R. 1319.
