I am writing to express my absolute disgust at the Trump administration’s reckless betrayal of Ukraine and our NATO allies. Trump’s recent rhetoric—calling Ukrainian President Zelenskyy a “dictator” and absurdly blaming Ukraine for invading Russia—is not only false but dangerous. Even more alarming is his decision to engage in direct discussions with Putin regarding Ukraine’s future while deliberately excluding both Ukraine and our European allies. Let me be clear: Ukraine is a sovereign nation that was invaded by Russia in 2022. The United States has long stood against authoritarian aggression, yet Trump and his administration are now actively working to force Ukraine to surrender its own land and abandon its NATO aspirations—both of which directly serve Putin’s interests. This is not diplomacy. This is capitulation. As an Army veteran who served for 20 years, I understand the importance of honoring our commitments to allies and defending democracy against tyranny. If the U.S. turns its back on Ukraine now, we send a clear message to every dictator and adversary that we are weak, unreliable, and willing to abandon those who trust us. I demand that you take a stand against Trump’s betrayal and make it clear that Congress will not support any deal that forces Ukraine to surrender to Russia. The U.S. must continue to provide military and financial support to Ukraine, stand firm in our NATO commitments, and oppose any attempt to appease Putin at the expense of democracy. Silence is not an option. History will judge those who stood by while democracy was dismantled. I urge you to speak out, take action, and ensure that the United States remains on the right side of history.
