Higher Regulation of AI and Keep It Out of Our Government

To: Sen. Bennet, Rep. Crank, Sen. Hickenlooper

From: A constituent in Colorado Springs, CO

October 11, 2025

I am writing to urge you to become more high-alert about Artificial Intelligence. Governments must understand that once Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) arrives, it will dictate humanity's future. Once we invent something that has knowledge, skill, and capability that exceeds that of a human, no restraints that we impose on it will have any effect. Many experts agree that we are reaching a point in technological advancement where AGI is coming soon. I urge you to introduce these ideas to your colleagues and the government as soon as possible. AI companies must take action now, and they must be given incentive and reason to act now. They have no reason not to continue growing without restraint. AI Agents have already gone public from more than one leading AI company. These agents are capable of performing tasks and doing labor and will take away jobs. Again, there is no reason for these AI companies to stop growing their models -- today, AI agents might only be able to sort emails and write code, but in a year, they may very well be doing tasks that humans are paid to do. This is a very parsed-down way of saying that AI will take away jobs from deserving American citizens. Beyond the scope of job insecurity, AI has already proven to be highly dangerous and volatile technology. There have been cases of AI already choosing to harm human beings in hypothetical scenarios. AIs have lied or fudged information. AIs have gone rogue and hacked outside systems. This is no longer in the realm of science fiction -- it is actively occurring in our day-to-day. As time moves forward and AI continues to develop at an exponential rate, action must be taken by government officials like you. AI must not be used to make decisions when it comes to laws, government, war, or anything of the like. I know that the Trump administration has commissioned several AI companies to work toward national security -- you MUST speak up and stand against this. It is immeasurably irresponsible to allow a machine that has no regard for human values or interests to make high-level decisions of any kind. Additionally, you MUST speak up for better regulation of AI companies. Companies should be required to publish detailed safety cases justifying why their models won't cause harm. It should be required for AI companies to more heavily fortify their safety teams to ensure that misalignment does not occur. It should be made practically impossible for any official, civilian, program, or otherwise to seize control of humanity's future using AI (yes, this is currently a possibility!). We must prepare our country and world for the AI explosion. YOU MUST TAKE ACTION toward high-scale regulation of AI, and KEEP IT OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT!
