No Cuts to Social Security!

To: Rep. McClintock, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

June 18

I am writing to urge you to safeguard Social Security, and utterly reject any proposals to cut trillions from this bedrock social safety net program. For decades, workers have faithfully contributed to the Social Security system through payroll deductions, upholding their end of the deal. Now, Trump and Republican lawmakers are now contemplating drastic cuts that will reduce payments to current and future recipients, betraying the promise made to those who diligently paid into the system throughout their careers. Decreasing or eliminating these earned benefits would push countless retirees, disabled individuals, and surviving family members into poverty and homelessness. That is absolutely unacceptable. For many, Social Security is their primary or sole source of income. It is unconscionable to deprive them of the safety net they have rightfully invested in, especially when the ultra-wealthy receive substantial tax breaks and Congress members enjoy generous pension plans. I urge you to take action to safeguard Social Security for the millions who rely on it. Dismantling or privatizing the Social Security system would be a profound betrayal of the American people. The financial stability of generations of Americans depends on your commitment to preserving this vital program.
