Block the Trump administration's so-called "Anti-Weaponization Fund" immediately. This $1.7 billion scheme — structured to avoid judicial review — is exactly what Rep. Jamie Raskin called it: a racket to drain taxpayer money into a slush fund for Trump's political allies. No legitimate legal settlement bypasses court oversight by design. This one does.
The original lawsuit was about a real wrong — the leak of Trump's tax returns, for which IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn was already prosecuted and sentenced to five years in prison. Justice was served. But the administration is now using that settled grievance as a pretext to create an unaccountable $1.7 billion fund with no clear list of beneficiaries and no judge to sign off on payouts. Ninety-three members of Congress have already challenged this arrangement, and ethics watchdogs including Democracy Forward have filed briefs opposing it. That opposition exists for good reason.
Taxpayers should not be funding political retribution. Demand full transparency on who receives money from this fund, support legislation to subject the settlement to judicial review, and use every available oversight tool to shut this down before a single dollar flows out.
