congress do your job. where are the checks and balances

To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Milwaukee, WI

November 4

I am writing as a concerned constituent who believes Congress must reassert its constitutional authority and provide effective oversight of the Executive Branch — particularly in matters of trade policy and the use of military or lethal force. The President’s recent tariffs have had devastating consequences for American workers, consumers, and small businesses. They have disrupted supply chains, raised costs for families, and undermined international confidence in our trade commitments. Congress has the clear authority under the Constitution to regulate commerce with foreign nations, and it is time to re-examine the delegation of broad tariff powers to the Executive. Oversight and recalibration are essential to ensure that trade policy serves the people, not political expediency. Equally troubling are reports and admissions of extrajudicial killings and unauthorized uses of lethal force. Such actions raise serious moral, legal, and constitutional questions. They erode America’s credibility abroad and our commitment to human rights and the rule of law. No President — regardless of party — should wield unchecked power to target individuals without transparent oversight, due process, or congressional authorization. Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to check these abuses. I urge you to support legislation and hearings that reaffirm the separation of powers, restore Congress’s role in decisions of war, peace, and trade, and uphold the fundamental American principle that no one is above the law. The strength of our democracy depends on active, principled leadership from all branches of government. Please stand up for constitutional balance, accountability, and the values that define our nation. Thank you for your service and for your attention to these urgent concerns. I look forward to your response and to seeing Congress exercise the oversight our Constitution demands.
