Medicare for All

To: Sen. Moran, Rep. Mann, Sen. Marshall

From: A constituent in Wamego, KS

December 3

I know you guys don’t care, but I want to tell you about my family’s healthcare predicament. I am 54 and my husband is 62. I have a chronic condition. It is dangerous for us to not have health insurance, yet, that is where we will be in 2026. We own our own business. We are in massive debt from the SBA loan we got to stay alive during COVID. The loan was originally supposed to be forgivable, then it wasn’t. We are on marketplace health insurance. Our claims were less than $1,000 for all of 2025, and our premiums amounted to about $11,000–including our now-18-year-old daughter. Luckily, she is enrolled at a university that covers her insurance year-round because we are considered “low income” and our coverage is so deficient. The lowest price policy available to us (just my husband and myself) for 2026 costs more than $1,800 per month, has a $22,000 deductible, and doesn’t cover a single cent of anything until the deductible is met. Now, we’re obviously not dumb people, because we have been running our own business since 2012 and our daughter is attending the #1 ranked university in the country. But someone thinks we’re stupid enough to pay $22,000 just for the privilege of paying another $22,000 before any of our health care needs are covered. And all of you support this financial rape of the middle class. Not to mention your support of a dementia-ridden literal rapist in the White House. One of the best possible outcomes of this situation for my family would be for me to die before our term life policy expires in the next two years. You guys are just lucky a majority of your constituents *are* dumb enough to keep electing you while your party destroys the economy, healthcare, education, foreign policy, law and order, family farms, small business…literally everything. There will be nothing left if the current regime’s grift doesn’t stop. Long story short: just renew the damned ACA subsidies and then give us Medicare for all. The richest country in the world letting its hardworking citizens die or go bankrupt from medical debt is a cruel and dystopian political farce.
