I am writing as your constituent to urge you to vote against confirming Steve Pearce as Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
In Congress, Pearce co-sponsored bills that would have made it easier to sell off national public lands, worked to undermine the Antiquities Act, and earned a lifetime score of just 4% from the League of Conservation Voters. He supported expanding oil and gas drilling on federal lands, voted against measures to address climate change, and tried to shrink existing National Monuments.
His financial disclosures show close ties to the oil and gas industry — he and his wife held stakes in oil and gas leases in the Permian Basin and must divest interests in more than 1,000 Oklahoma leases if confirmed. This is a textbook conflict of interest for someone overseeing 245 million acres of public land.
The Senate already forced the abandonment of an effort to sell off public lands just months ago after a bipartisan public outcry. Confirming Pearce would betray that same public.
Our public lands belong to every American. Vote no on Steve Pearce.
