I am incredibly concerned with this administration's illegal and unconstitutional actions. I know that impeachment didn't do anything the last two times it happened with Donald J. Trump, but I feel if nothing else, bringing articles of impeachment against him would be a morale boost for the left.
We are scared, overwhelmed, and seeing action, even symbolic, from our representatives may help to quell some fears. The following are the orders I am most concerned about, as they display a blatant disregard of the constitution and laws of this land, as well as clear attempts to further consolidate power:
Attempt to end birthright citizenship - This directly contradicts the 14th amendment, the unconstitutional nature of attempting to overturn constitutional amendments via executive order
Freezing federal funds - an overstep of separation of sword and purse and a violation of the Impoundment Control Act
Dismissal of Inspectors General - removes watchdogs and apolitical appointees to replace them with loyalists. Erosion of governmental oversight undermines Congressional checks and balances without the requisite 30 days notice
Targeting transgender youth - violates constitutional protections against discrimination
Sending 30,000 immigrants to Guantanamo Bay - No constitutional protections on foreign land, no protection via the Geneva Conventions if they're labeled enemies of the state, GB is built to house 800 people, so 30k will, by definition, make it a concentration camp.
I could continue listing things that concern me and many others about this administration's actions, but the crux of it is that we are speeding toward autocratic tyranny, if we're not already there. Any moves taken to put sand in the gears and slow his undemocratic actions is one second longer we're not staring down the barrel of our impending doom. I hope you and your colleagues choose to be on the right side of history.
