Prioritize solutions for Oklahoma's homelessness crisis with compassion

To: Rep. Hern, Sen. Lankford, Sen. Mullin

From: A constituent in Tulsa, OK

February 27

The homelessness crisis in Oklahoma requires urgent action to provide resources and support for those without stable housing. Forcing the unhoused population to remain on the streets without access to temporary shelters or assistance perpetuates a cycle of poverty and despair. Rather than criminalizing homelessness, we should address the root causes through compassionate policies and investments in affordable housing, mental health services, job training programs, and addiction treatment. The true threat is not the unhoused community itself, but rather the systemic failures of an economic system that prioritizes profits over people's basic needs. We must reject this lack of empathy and embrace a more just and equitable approach that upholds the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their housing status. Practical solutions rooted in humanity are necessary to tackle this crisis effectively.
