Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. There is nothing left to say about the 9/10/24 Harris/Trump debate. America saw it. You saw it. There was a clear demarcation in the leadership qualities required to be an American president. Succinct analysis in the WaPo… “Donald Trump’s debate performance offered a nonstop 90-minute reminder, to anyone who needed one and is open to reality, of why he can’t be trusted with a second term. There was no lie the former president wouldn’t stoop to tell, repeating lurid reports of migrants eating pets, calling his opponent a Marxist and, even after acknowledging the truth, claiming once again that he won the 2020 election. There was no regret he was willing to express, including his behavior on Jan. 6, 2021, and no dangerous position he wouldn’t repeat, including refusing to say whether he wanted Ukraine to prevail against Russia.” We are tired of insane conspiracy theories based on nothing more than a random bigoted untrue FaceBook post, that your candidate and his enablers latched onto and ran with, assuming it would be a sure-fire winner with the public. If y’all can be suckered into spreading silliness about pet cannibalism that easily, the Russians had a no-brainer to spread their propaganda amongst you. They watch. They learn. They manipulate. Easily. And then there’s yesterday’s spectacle of DJT showing up (at long last, because it is an election year after all) at this year’s 9/11 memorial ceremony with an actual on-the-record-more-than-once-9/11-denier. An American presidential candidate shows up to one of our most solemn events with someone who says the government he wants to lead actually organized and sponsored 9/11. And who also accompanied DJT and JD Vance to a FDNY firehouse in lower Manhattan to take pics with firefighters, some of whom died on 9/11. We have slowly become so inured to such disgrace and unpatriotic behavior by a guy that wants to be president that it gets shrugged off. That in itself is a national disgrace. That we can’t even care anymore about right and wrong. We can’t care about the very things that give us pride in America. We can’t even care if we have the most unfit presidential candidate in our history. But most of us do care. We are just tired of the drama so we try to tune out the noise. And we will vote like crazy in November. I have to leave with one more distillation of how the GOP ended up in this sad, corrupt, diminished state… “All day today, reporters fact checked Trump’s statements, proving them lies. But lies have never damaged him; they reinforce his dominance by forcing subordinates to agree that the person in charge gets to determine what reality is. Victims must surrender either their integrity or their ownership of their own perceptions; in either case, once they have agreed to a deliberate lie, it becomes harder to challenge later ones since that means acknowledging the other times they caved.” Ouch.
