Oppose the Shutdown "Fairness" Act

To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Wilsonville, OR

October 21

I’m writing in strong opposition to Senator Johnson’s Shutdown Fairness Act. While I very much want our servicemembers to be paid, this bill is not the way to go about it. It gives way too much power to Russel Vought to disburse funds where he wants during the shutdown and cut off departments and services with which he disagrees. It’s a formula for partisan punitiveness. Congress needs to get back to negotiations to reopen the government on a bipartisan, bicameral basis - rather than trying to patch-solve single parts of the mess it creates. And we want those ACA premium tax credits extended. Health is a human right. Keep up the good fight!
