Remember…nothing Can Stop We the People. Vote!

Ever wonder what happens when an elected leadership decides to try and do away with the very system that brought them to power? The same system that entrusted them with the power that they now wield against the citizenry to take away our vote. Abuse of power must be heady stuff. Because once elected they realized how easy it might possibly be to never relinquish power. And once you gain dominion over the Department of Justice, every legal device and lever is at your disposal, to launch at anyone, anywhere, anytime. And that is where we are right now with the Trump administration. Just a few days to the midterm elections and they are systematically, and desperately, using the legal system to disenfranchise as many of our votes as they can. Fortunately they are not particularly adept at doing so. Perhaps because trying to destroy our most sacred right to vote isn’t every lawyer’s fantasy when they go to law school? The administration has tried to force California to set aside 20,000 ballots already cast in the election. Just by claiming that those casting them might not be citizens. But U.S. District Judge David O. Carter refused to agree, saying the Trump administration is engaging in “a broad, ongoing pattern of attempted election interference.” “This case is about the right of every American citizen to vote in a free and fair election. Never before in American history has the federal government, on the eve of an election, sought to coerce a state and local government to abandon their own Constitutional elections procedures and bend to the will of the Executive Branch. In bringing this lawsuit, the Executive would have this Court believe that it reigns as a sole sovereign. But California and its people are sovereign, too.” Carter noted that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has also sent letters to the secretaries of state in New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania claiming that the states’ voter rolls include noncitizens. Mullin had publicly alleged there were 15,903 noncitizens on the voter rolls in Nevada. Then quietly dropped that number to 185. When Nevada officials chased down the 185 names, every single one belonged to a U.S. citizen. Meanwhile, there has been widespread talk that Trump intends to restart the military assault against Iran after the election. And it appears a plan is in place should he decide to do so. At the Middle East Institute, Senator Chris Murphy said that the war plan that has been prepared for the administration “is insane…. It will lead to devastating escalation and the likely destruction of our commitment to the rule of law.” He continued: “[T]he plan that they have developed will lead, in my view, to a prolongment and an escalation of this war that will be devastating for our security interests.” How much longer will we let chaos reign in America?
