I am writing to urge your immediate action regarding the "densification" of commercial airline cabins. I recently flew an international route on a Boeing 777 in a "10-abreast" configuration. The seats were so narrow that for the first time, I genuinely questioned my own health and physical well-being, wondering if I was simply "too large" for basic air travel. It was a degrading experience. After upgrading to a humane seat width for my return flight, I realized the problem wasn't my body: it was a deliberate design choice by the airline to prioritize profit density over human dignity.  As my Senator, I ask you to hold the FAA accountable to the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 and support the Stop Airplane Seat Shrinking Act. Specifically, I urge you to:  1. Establish Minimum Dimensions: Mandate federal minimums for seat width and pitch. No American should be physically "pinned" or psychologically humiliated because an airline squeezed an extra seat into a row designed for fewer. 2. Mandate Realistic Evacuation Testing: Ensure the DOT conducts evacuation tests using high-density configurations and diverse passenger demographics. The "90-second rule" is a fantasy if passengers are physically wedged into their rows. 3. Address Health Risks: Recognize the increased risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and physical strain caused by "slimline" seating on long-haul flights.  Airlines are intentionally making Economy unbearable to "nudge" passengers into expensive upgrades, essentially taxing us for basic physical space. This is a matter of consumer protection and public safety. I look forward to seeing your leadership in restoring dignity and safety to American air travel.
