Vote No on HB8800, the FY2027 NDAA

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Lavon, TX

July 23

Vote no on HB8800, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027. This bill authorizes hundreds of billions in defense spending across procurement, research, and operations — but the structure itself is a problem. Burying all actual dollar amounts in separate funding tables in the 4000-series sections makes meaningful oversight nearly impossible, and that opacity should disqualify it on its own. Beyond the accounting games, this bill locks in multi-year procurement contracts that will bind future Congresses to obligations well beyond FY2027. That's not responsible defense policy — that's writing blank checks for programs that haven't proven their worth. Vote no and demand a version that's transparent, accountable, and doesn't mortgage future budgets on today's defense contractor wish lists.
