Oppose the Confirmation of Kevin Warsh as Federal Reserve Chair
To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla
From: A constituent in San Diego, CA
May 2
I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to the appointment of Kevin Warsh as the next Chair of the Federal Reserve.
Given the current fragility of the American economy, I believe his appointment would be a detrimental step that risks further destabilizing our financial future. Mr. Warsh’s policy history and stated philosophies raise several red flags for the average American worker:
•Risk of Politicization: A central bank must remain independent to make tough, data-driven decisions. Mr. Warsh’s alignment with executive calls for immediate interest rate cuts suggests a shift toward short-term political wins over long-term economic stability.
•Aggressive Balance Sheet Reduction: His plan to rapidly shrink the Fed’s balance sheet could inadvertently tighten credit conditions too quickly, making it even harder for families to secure mortgages or for small businesses to obtain necessary loans.
•Criticism of Economic Safety Nets: Mr. Warsh has been a vocal critic of the tools used to stabilize the economy during past crises. In an era of global volatility, we need a leader who is willing to use every tool available to prevent a recession, rather than one ideologically opposed to them.
•Predictability vs. Volatility: By proposing to eliminate "forward guidance," Mr. Warsh risks creating unnecessary market volatility. In an economy that is already "stark" for many, we need the transparency and stability that the current Fed leadership provides.
At a time when many Americans are struggling with the cost of living and market uncertainty, we cannot afford an experimental "regime change" at the Federal Reserve. I urge you to vote against his confirmation and advocate instead for a candidate committed to stability, independence, and the protection of the middle class.
Thank you for your time and for representing our district’s interests.
