Congress holds the power of the purse, and it is now your responsibility to reverse the drastic reduction in funding for health care research that will put a stop to medical advances and threaten the very existence of Ohio’s best hospitals and clinics. The NIH overhead rate is part of the research infrastructure of this country, and is involved in numerous existing contracts amounting to irreplaceable billions of dollars of support for Ohio hospitals, clinics and medical schools. Cancer research at the forefront of modern technology; personalized cures for children born with faulty genes; robotic surgery to repair leaky hearts and restore athletes’ worn joints; all that goes away if YOU do not ACT NOW. As your constituent I urge you immediately to take a stand and protect the health, economy, and future of Ohioans by protecting the right of NIH to negotiate the overhead rates necessary to fund these critical innovations in modern health care.
