Eliminate Electoral College

To: Gov. Whitmer, Rep. Outman, Sen. Outman

From: A verified voter in Cedar Springs, MI

May 3

I am writing to express my strong support for the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC). Our current system of electing the President is outdated, and it is time we ensure that every American’s vote carries equal weight, regardless of the state in which they live. Under the current winner-take-all system, candidates are incentivized to ignore the vast majority of the country, focusing their time and resources on just a handful of "battleground" states. This leaves tens of millions of voters in "safe" states—both Republican and Democratic—effectively sidelined. The NPVIC offers a constitutional, state-based solution that guarantees the presidency to the candidate who wins the most individual votes nationwide. The benefits of this compact are clear: True Equality: It upholds the fundamental democratic principle of "one person, one vote." National Relevance: Candidates will be forced to engage with voters across the entire country, not just in a few select zip codes. Mandate to Lead: It ensures the winner of the White House always has the support of the majority of the American people, increasing institutional stability. We have reached a point where the person who receives the fewest votes can still win the highest office in the land. This undermines public confidence in our elections. By joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, our state can lead the way in making our democracy more representative, more competitive, and more fair. I urge you to support the passage of this vital legislation.
