An Open Letter

Subject: Request for Clarification on Oath of Office and Constitutional Principles I hope this letter finds you well. As your constituent and a deeply concerned citizen of Arkansas, I write to seek your perspectives on two fundamental concepts that underpin your roles as elected officials: the definition of a "domestic enemy" and the significance of the oath of office you took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. The oath of office is a solemn promise to uphold the principles of the Constitution and to ensure that the system of checks and balances within our government functions as intended by our founders. In Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, the Presidential Oath is explicitly outlined, while the congressional oath similarly requires fidelity to the Constitution. These oaths are not merely ceremonial; they represent a commitment to safeguarding the Republic from threats both foreign and domestic. However, recent political developments, particularly concerning the actions of former President Donald Trump, have raised questions about accountability and the application of these principles. The events surrounding January 6, 2021, and ongoing investigations into his conduct have left many Americans questioning whether the checks and balances designed to protect our democracy are being fully exercised. As someone who believes in the rule of law and the Constitution, I struggle to reconcile my understanding of a "domestic enemy"—an individual or entity that undermines the Constitution, the rule of law, or the integrity of our democracy—with the seeming lack of consequences for actions that threaten these principles. I am asking for your interpretation of: 1. The term "domestic enemy" as it applies to your oath and duties. 2. The meaning and weight of the oath of office in the context of defending the Constitution from such threats. 3. How you view the role of checks and balances in ensuring accountability for individuals, regardless of their position or power, when their actions endanger the Republic. It is my hope that your answers will provide clarity and reassurance that our elected officials are steadfast in their commitment to upholding their oaths and protecting our democracy. The stakes are too high for ambiguity or inaction. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and stand ready to discuss these critical issues further.
