I am writing to express my strong support for federal action to ratify legislation allowing the state of Colorado to remain on standard time year-round and eliminate daylight saving time. While Colorado has passed its own bill to address this issue, we are unable to move forward without federal approval. I urge you to advocate for this change at the national level and help our state avoid further delays. Daylight saving time has long been justified on the grounds of public safety and economic benefit, but research increasingly suggests the opposite. The biannual time changes disrupt sleep patterns, increasing the risk of heart attacks and other health issues. Moreover, this disruption negatively impacts worker productivity and school performance. Maintaining standard time would reduce these avoidable costs and contribute to greater public well-being and economic stability. As a parent of school-age children, I’ve seen firsthand how the time changes create more challenges than they solve. While daylight saving time is often justified as protecting children in the morning hours, the reality is that the early darkness in the evenings during standard time makes the switch unnecessary and even counterproductive. Keeping a consistent schedule throughout the year would benefit families like mine and simplify life for everyone. Arizona already serves as a successful example of a state that operates solely on standard time without federal barriers or the need to coordinate with neighboring states. Colorado should be granted the same opportunity to prioritize the well-being of its citizens over outdated policies. I urge you to take action in Congress to enable states like Colorado to adopt a consistent, year-round time.
