I'm asking you to oppose any reauthorization of warrantless surveillance programs that target Americans and to support legislation requiring warrants for all domestic surveillance activities.
Mass surveillance programs violate the Fourth Amendment rights of millions of law-abiding citizens. Intelligence agencies have repeatedly abused their authority, collecting phone records, internet activity, and personal communications without probable cause or judicial oversight. These programs don't make us safer—they make us subjects of constant government monitoring.
The argument that we must sacrifice privacy for security is false. Targeted surveillance with proper warrants has always been available to law enforcement and has proven effective. Dragnet collection of American communications creates massive databases ripe for abuse while doing little to prevent actual threats.
I expect you to vote against any bill that extends warrantless surveillance powers and to actively work toward reforms that restore constitutional protections. Americans deserve privacy in their digital lives just as much as in their homes.
