Oppose the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)
To: Rep. García
From: A constituent in Chicago, IL
January 8
Dear Representative,
I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) in its current form.
While protecting children online is an important goal, KOSA’s current provisions threaten privacy, free speech, and parental control. By imposing broad content moderation requirements on platforms and mandating algorithmic changes, KOSA risks over-censoring speech, undermining user privacy, and shifting authority from families to government and private corporations. These measures could also inadvertently expose children to greater risks by limiting open communication and education about digital safety.
As a member of Congress, you have the responsibility to protect children while safeguarding constitutional rights. I urge you to:
Oppose KOSA in its current form, which creates unintended legal, privacy, and free speech risks.
Support evidence-based, privacy respecting approaches to online safety that empower parents and educators.
Encourage transparency and accountability in digital platforms without imposing sweeping mandates that harm users.
Children’s online safety is critical, but legislation must not create a digital environment of overreach, surveillance, or censorship. Congress should prioritize solutions that protect children while respecting privacy, free expression, and parental authority.
I expect a public statement outlining your position and your commitment to responsible digital policy.
