I am writing as a constituent to urge you to take clear and immediate action to oppose any effort by the United States to use military force to seize or annex Greenland. Former President Donald Trump has publicly stated that the United States should take control of Greenland, refusing to rule out coercive or military measures and framing the issue as a matter of U.S. national security. Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO ally, and its status is protected under international law and the principle of self-determination. Any attempt to take Greenland by force would be illegal, destabilizing, and profoundly damaging to U.S. credibility. Such an action would undermine NATO, violate international norms, and risk unnecessary conflict with allied nations. It would also represent a dangerous expansion of executive power and a direct challenge to Congress’s constitutional authority over war and military action. Polling shows that most Americans oppose military intervention in Greenland and view such proposals as reckless and harmful to U.S. interests. I urge you to take the following actions: • Publicly and unequivocally oppose any effort to use U.S. military force to seize or control Greenland • Support congressional measures, including War Powers protections, that block unauthorized military action • Ensure that defense and appropriations legislation explicitly prohibits funding for any military operation targeting Greenland without congressional approval Congress has a constitutional responsibility to prevent unlawful wars and protect the nation from abuses of executive power. Silence or ambiguity on this issue invites escalation and sets a dangerous precedent. I expect you, as an elected official, to defend the rule of law, uphold international commitments, and reject any attempt to use the U.S. military as a tool of coercion against allied nations.
