Do not let the Trump administration defy a Supreme Court order

To: Sen. Moran, Sen. Marshall, Rep. Davids

April 14

The Trump administration's defiance of the Supreme Court's unanimous order to facilitate the release of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia from a Salvadoran prison is a blatant disregard for the rule of law. Despite admitting their "administrative error" in wrongfully deporting Mr. Abrego Garcia, a U.S. resident and father of three, the administration continues to oppose efforts to bring him back to the United States. Their assertion that courts lack authority to direct the executive branch in foreign affairs does not justify ignoring a binding Supreme Court ruling. This obstructionist stance undermines the system of checks and balances and sets a dangerous precedent of executive overreach. The separation of powers is a cornerstone of American democracy, and no branch should be above judicial review. By refusing to comply with the court's order, the administration is flouting its constitutional duty and eroding faith in our institutions. Such brazen defiance cannot be tolerated in a nation built on the principles of justice and equality before the law. Swift action must be taken to uphold the Supreme Court's decision and restore Mr. Abrego Garcia's lawful rights as an American resident. Failure to do so would represent an unacceptable assault on our democratic values.
