Protect DEI Programs That Strengthen Our Communities

To: Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Nesbitt, Rep. Andrews

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

March 11

I'm asking you to oppose any legislation that dismantles diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. DEI is what makes this country great, and it deserves protection, not elimination. These programs don't lower standards. They recognize talent and perspective in all its forms. They're what built this country and what keeps us competitive. When we create pathways for people from different backgrounds, we strengthen our workforce, our schools, and our communities. Bills targeting DEI use vague definitions that leave institutions guessing about what's allowed. That vagueness isn't an accident. It's designed to intimidate leaders into erasing the cultural celebrations, mentorship programs, and support systems that reflect who we actually are as a nation. Communities should have the freedom to celebrate their diversity without fear of lawsuits or state intervention. DEI represents our values. It acknowledges our history and creates opportunity for everyone to contribute. Dismantling these programs moves us backward. Stand with communities that want to build a country where everyone has a fair shot. Protect DEI.
