I am writing to demand that you exercise Congress's constitutional authority under the War Powers Resolution and vote to stop unauthorized military actions currently being undertaken without proper congressional approval. The Constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to declare war, yet recent military operations in Venezuela, Nigeria, and Iran appear to be proceeding without the required congressional authorization.
This is not a partisan issue. This is about upholding the fundamental checks and balances that protect our democracy from executive overreach. When military force is deployed without congressional debate and approval, it circumvents the deliberative process our founders designed to prevent reckless military entanglements. Every member of Congress who fails to assert this constitutional authority is complicit in undermining the separation of powers.
The consequences of inaction are severe. Illegal wars drain resources that could support American families, put service members in harm's way without proper oversight, and damage our nation's credibility on the world stage. The recent firing of Vice Admiral Nancy Lacore by Secretary Hegseth raises additional concerns about military leadership decisions being made without appropriate accountability.
I expect you to take immediate action by voting to invoke the War Powers Resolution and halt these unauthorized military operations. This is your constitutional duty, not an optional political calculation. If you fail to act, I will remember your inaction when I cast my vote in the next election. So will many other constituents who believe in constitutional governance over partisan loyalty.
The American people deserve representatives who will defend the Constitution even when it requires standing up to their own party's administration. I am watching your vote on this issue closely, and I will hold you accountable for your decision.
