An Open Letter

July 13

As a constituent, I am asking you to publicly demand that the Department of Justice fully comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and to oppose any effort by the executive branch to interfere with, delay, or narrow that release. Congress passed the Act with bipartisan support, and President Trump signed it into law on November 19, 2025. It requires DOJ to release the files, permits withholding only in narrow cases like protecting victims’ identities, and explicitly bars withholding material to avoid “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.” Despite that mandate, compliance has been in question. NPR’s investigation, covered on PBS NewsHour, found DOJ withheld files containing allegations involving President Trump, which House Oversight Democrats said could amount to a crime. In July 2026, a federal judge ruled that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had effectively conceded DOJ was violating the Act, and ordered release of additional unredacted names and FBI interview notes by a court deadline; DOJ has indicated it will appeal. To be clear, the specific allegations against the president in these files are unproven and denied by the White House. That is exactly why this matters: the public deserves a process governed by the law Congress passed, not by the discretion of officials who report to the person named in the documents. Survivors have waited years for accountability, and they, along with every American, deserve to see the truth established transparently, not decided behind closed doors. I am asking you to: 1. Publicly call on DOJ to comply immediately with the court-ordered deadlines under the Act, without further delay or appeal. 2. Support oversight hearings and, if necessary, subpoenas to determine whether files were improperly withheld and why — regardless of who is implicated. Your public statements and actions on this will factor into how I evaluate your service. Please respond and let me know the specific steps you intend to take.
