I am writing to express my deep concern about the devastating impact of recent tax legislation on working families in our community. The contrast between outcomes for billionaires and ordinary Americans during the first year of Trump's second term demands immediate action.
According to Americans for Tax Fairness, US billionaire wealth surged to a record $8.2 trillion in 2025, a 22% increase from $6.7 trillion the previous year. The 30 MAGA billionaire families who spent $1.4 billion influencing the 2024 elections saw their collective wealth grow by $408 billion, a 37.5% increase. The top 1% of households alone will receive $1 trillion from the tax package passed by Trump and congressional Republicans in summer 2025.
Meanwhile, your constituents are suffering. The same legislation that delivered these massive tax breaks to the wealthy launched an unprecedented assault on Medicaid and SNAP, cuts that will leave millions without health insurance and food aid in coming years. Trump and the GOP refused to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that lapsed at the end of 2025, causing health insurance premiums to skyrocket for millions nationwide. Trump's tariff policies have spiked consumer costs for families already struggling to make ends meet.
The Republican Study Committee's priorities for a possible second reconciliation bill include repealing the estate tax, which would benefit only the wealthiest sliver of Americans. This is unacceptable after making the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history.
I urge you to oppose any further tax giveaways to billionaires and wealthy corporations. Vote against estate tax repeal. Support legislation that restores funding to Medicaid and SNAP, and work to reinstate ACA subsidies that made health insurance affordable for working families. Your constituents need a representative who will fight for them, not for billionaire donors.
