SAVE Act hurts Women

To: Sen. Marshall, Sen. Moran, Rep. Davids

From: A constituent in Overland Park, KS

April 12

The recently passed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act imposes unnecessary burdens that would disenfranchise millions of eligible U.S. citizens, particularly women. As highlighted during the House debate, the requirement to provide documented proof of citizenship like a birth certificate or passport could prevent up to 69 million American women who have changed their names after marriage or divorce from being able to register and vote. This legislation creates major obstacles for women exercising their fundamental right to vote by forcing them to navigate bureaucratic hurdles and produce multiple documents just to get on the voter rolls. Married women should not face these discriminatory barriers in order to participate in our democracy. I urge you to reject this law that curtails voting access and uphold the constitutional protections that safeguard every citizen's ability to make their voice heard at the ballot box.
