Prioritize healthcare access over tax cuts for the wealthy
To: Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

The GOP megabill proposes significant changes to Medicaid, a vital program that provides healthcare coverage to millions of low-income, elderly, and disabled Americans. The cuts to Medicaid spending, through measures like work requirements and shortened enrollment periods, will result in many losing access to essential medical care. At the same time, the bill extends tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the wealthy and corporations, exacerbating economic inequality. This approach raises serious moral and fiscal concerns. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will add $3.8 trillion to the deficit over the next decade, mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren. We cannot continue policies that prioritize tax breaks for the rich over ensuring access to healthcare for our most vulnerable citizens. I urge you to reconsider these provisions that slash Medicaid while favoring the affluent through tax cuts. We need a more balanced approach that protects vital safety net programs and promotes fiscal responsibility.
