Uphold rule of law, deny Trump's pardon request
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A verified voter in Seaford, NY
November 7
I urge you not to issue a pardon for Donald Trump's 34 felony convictions related to falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments. While Trump's presidential victory may create political pressure, granting a pardon would undermine the rule of law and send a dangerous message that the wealthy and powerful are above the law. Trump was duly convicted by a jury of his peers after a fair trial. Pardoning him would be a miscarriage of justice. As leaders, we must uphold the integrity of our judicial system and equal application of the law for all citizens, regardless of wealth, status or political affiliation. Preserving faith in our democratic institutions should take precedence over short-term political calculations. A society with equal justice is foundational to a healthy democracy. I implore you to let the legal process proceed unimpeded. Respecting judicial outcomes, even for prominent figures facing accountability, is essential to maintaining public trust in government and upholding cherished American principles of justice and equality under the law. An unjustified pardon would only serve to further erode that trust.
