I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to prevent further military escalation against Iran and to oppose President Trump's recent strikes that have pushed our nation toward another devastating war in the Middle East.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a major military attack on Iran, marking the second such strike in eight months. These attacks reportedly killed more than 200 people and targeted areas around the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has already retaliated by firing missiles and drones toward Israel and U.S. military bases in the region. This cycle of violence threatens to spiral into a full-scale war that would cost countless American and Iranian lives.
President Trump has called on the Iranian people to "rise up" and "take over your government," a stunning escalation in U.S. intervention that echoes the disastrous regime change policies that destabilized Iraq, Libya, and other nations. His justifications for military action, including claims about Iran's nuclear program and grievances dating back to 1979, do not warrant launching strikes that kill hundreds of people and risk igniting a regional conflict.
Congress has the constitutional authority to declare war, and I expect you to exercise that authority now. The American people did not vote for another endless war in the Middle East. We have already witnessed the catastrophic human and financial costs of military interventions that lack clear objectives and exit strategies.
I urge you to publicly oppose these strikes, demand that President Trump seek congressional authorization before any further military action against Iran, and support diplomatic efforts to de-escalate this crisis. The consequences of inaction are clear: more deaths, regional instability, and potentially another generation-defining war.
Will you commit to opposing further military escalation against Iran and demanding congressional oversight of any military action?
