Each day that unfolds stings our conscience as we bear witness to the utter devastation and loss of innocent lives taking place far away from our safe and comfortable homes. This ceaseless turmoil, fought in the name of sovereignty and security, has turned into a theatre of immense cruelty. Through our active financial support and shipment of arms, the United States has become an unwilling participant in these heinous acts of aggression against the Palestinian civilians. With this letter, I am pleading – no, demanding – a halting of this atrocious involvement. We must put an end to these crimes against humanity and push for an immediate ceasefire, not as politicians, but as moral beings who understand the value of each human life. Our country, deeply rooted in values of freedom, justice and respect for individual rights, can no longer afford to be a silent spectator or, worse yet, a tacit facilitator of these heart-wrenching inflictions. We, the American people, did not vote for this. We did not vote for our hard-earned tax dollars to fund assaults on schools, hospitals and homes. We did not vote for our resources to be sent across the sea, only to be materialized into bombs and bullets that strike fear and death into the hearts of innocent Palestinians. Each funding of arms sent is a mockery of our noble principles, diminishing our identity as a champion of peace and justice. We must insist on accountability. We must insist on averting more human suffrage by influencing peace talks and advocating for disarmament. To achieve this, we cannot continue supporting Israel's actions unconditionally, without discerning its repercussions. A genuine, compassionate consideration of the Palestinian plight must guide our policies, and our influence must be steered towards creating an environment conducive to negotiation, reconciliation and lasting peace. All of this must begin immediately - before the world loses one more precious life.
