I am concerned about the significantly higher government spending during the first 100 days of this administration compared to the same period last year. Despite promises of cuts, the analysis by CBS News shows the federal government has spent over $200 billion more so far. This increased spending appears driven largely by rising costs for the military, debt interest payments, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. While some savings have been reported from the DOGE task force's efforts, these amount to a tiny fraction of the overall spending increase and national debt. The fundamentals of the budget make reining in costs extremely challenging without addressing the biggest expenditure areas. As a fiscally responsible citizen, I urge you to take substantive steps to cut costs and reduce the deficit, rather than focusing solely on smaller programs. Reining in runaway spending requires bold action on the major spending drivers. I hope you will make this a top priority.
