Demand for Comprehensive Ethics Reform Across All Three Branches

To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Beatty

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

April 12

I am writing as a constituent and consistent voter to express my profound concern regarding the erosion of ethical standards within our federal government. Public service is a privilege that should never be used as a vehicle for private profit or personal enrichment. I am urging you to support and co-sponsor the following legislative measures to restore the American people’s trust in our institutions: 1. Legislative Branch: End Congressional Insider Trading. The current STOCK Act is insufficient. I urge you to support the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7001 / S. 3855), introduced by Chairman Steil and Senator Cassidy. This bill would finally ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from purchasing publicly traded stocks and mandate a seven-day public notice before any sales. We must ensure that those making our laws cannot profit from the non-public information they receive. 2. Judicial Branch: Enforceable Ethics for the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court cannot remain the only branch without a formal, enforceable code of conduct. I ask you to support the Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act (H.R. 7692 / S. 3914). This legislation is vital to establishing an independent Office of Investigative Counsel within the Court to ensure that "gifts" and travel from wealthy donors are properly scrutinized and penalized. 3. Executive Branch: Prevent Conflicts of Interest. The executive branch must be held to the highest standard of divestiture. I urge you to support the creation of a permanent, independent Commission on Federal Ethics to oversee and enforce anti-corruption laws. We must close the "business loophole" by requiring all senior executive officials and the President to place assets into a blind trust or liquidate holdings that create a conflict of interest with federal policy—particularly in emerging markets like cryptocurrency and foreign real estate. Restoring trust in our democracy is not a partisan issue; it is a structural necessity. I am tracking your position on these bills and look forward to seeing you take a leadership role in championing these reforms before the end of the 119th Congress.
