Support Updated COVID-19 Vaccine Formulations to Address Emerging Variants

I'm asking you to champion updated COVID-19 vaccine formulations and public education campaigns as new variants like BA.3.2 continue to emerge. The CDC has detected this variant in 25 states through wastewater surveillance, and its spike protein mutations show enhanced immune escape in laboratory studies.
Since late 2019, SARS-CoV-2 has generated continuous antigenic diversity that requires periodic vaccine reformulation. The BA.3.2 variant, detected in clinical samples and international travelers, demonstrates why this adaptive approach matters. While it doesn't cause new symptoms, its ability to partially evade existing immunity increases breakthrough infection risk.
mRNA vaccine technology allows rapid updates to match circulating strains. The CDC already uses robust surveillance data to guide vaccine composition decisions, but we need stronger public messaging about why updated formulations work. Many people don't understand that getting an updated vaccine isn't about the previous one failing—it's about matching our defenses to an evolving virus, just like we do with annual flu shots.
I want to see federal funding for public health campaigns that explain how mRNA vaccines are reformulated and why staying current with boosters protects both individuals and communities. The science works, but only if people use it.
